Is Apple going into virtual reality?
November 15, 2008

On February 27th, 2008, Apple filed a patent for a “Virtual Reality Headset” that adjusts its image to the position in which the user’s head is. I found out about it on MacRumors (The GREATEST website, www.macrumors.com).
It would be quite an adventure for apple to do some virtual reality work, and to release this product, which they probably have a 99% chance of doing. But, this is NOT a rumor, I know I found it on MacRumors, but MacRumors found out directly from the U.S. patent website. Click here to go to the official patent.
As I said, it would be a gigantic jump for Apple to release a virtual reality headset, but hey, they went from computers and MP3 players to phones, why not computers, iPods, and phones to virtual reality. It would definitely be cool. Very cool.
The idea also raises questions. Would it be a product or accesory? WHEN would they release it?
The second question above has me thinking. They said that they have already announced thier full product holiday lineup, so their next chance to release it (and of course with a conference) would be at MacWorld 2009. I’m not sure when that date is yet, I’ll definetly find out.
I personally am very excited. About two years ago I bought this video eyeware headset, video eyeware, not virtual reality, from Icuiti, now known as Vuzix, www.vuzix.com. It sounds cool, but its not that great, and Vuzix (Icuiti) might have improved their products, I know they now have ones with bigger screens.
I’m on the edge of my seat.
